How long does bespoke furniture take?

The short answer: bespoke furniture lead times depend on the project scope, material availability, finishing technology and the workshop's current schedule. We can confirm a reliable date after design approval and agreement on when the room will be ready for installation.

Three stages of making furniture: design, components and a finished cabinet

Key point: A reliable completion date can only be confirmed once the scope, material availability and manufacturing details have been agreed. A survey alone does not mean production has begun.

Stages from idea to installation

  1. Enquiry and scope: furniture type, location, expectations and budget.
  2. Survey and arrangements: checking dimensions, services and installation conditions.
  3. Detailed design: drawings, materials, doors, hardware and fittings.
  4. Ordering materials: availability can affect the start of production.
  5. Manufacture: cutting to size, CNC machining, finishing, lacquering or veneering and component preparation.
  6. Installation: installation, adjustment and handover of the agreed work.

What most often affects the timescale?

Order size, the number of unusual components, finishing methods and availability of selected materials all matter. Curved doors, bespoke routing, multi-stage lacquering or components supplied by other manufacturers may require extra time.

How can you avoid unnecessary delays?

  • Provide a complete design and current dimensions.
  • Agree materials and fittings before approving production.
  • Tell us about other trades and when the room is expected to be ready.
  • Keep changes to a minimum after approving the detailed design.
  • Appoint someone to make prompt decisions — the client or architect.

The architect's role in the schedule

BK76 works with architects and designers. Efficient communication between the client, architect and contractor helps identify clashes and confirm materials earlier. The final completion date still requires confirmation by the workshop.

Do you have a target date for your project?

Tell us the scope, location and preferred date — we will check what is possible.
